News: 5 items of interest on the Nov 26, 2012 Council Agenda

The Huber Heights City Council meets 26 November 2012. There are about 50 items on the agenda so it will be a full night. Below I identify a few of the items I think most citizens should watch in order to make sure council conducts educational discussions about how decisions are made. I recommend you also look over the rest of the agenda items to see if any of them deal with things that you…

News: City does it again.  Voted tonight to spend money on another project before residents got an opportunity to discuss

Tonight Monday Dec 10th 2012 residents learned about a proposed Music Center the city plans on building. Five minutes later council voted to spend $100,000 in order to commission a study that will tell them to commence with a project where they have already settled on the major details. This is a familiar story to the Aquatic center and the original disclosure of "The Heights Project".  As…

News: Victoria's Italian Cuisine marches with JROTC

Update --- The Ch 7 story is scheduled to play at 11:00pm Tonight Sunday Jan 20th 2013

I just got a call from Mindy Proctor and she told me Victoria's Italian Cuisine has committed to donate 10% of their Sunday proceeds in order to make sure Wayne High School students have the opportunity to participate in JROTC.  The restaurant plans to continue this program until the newly formed foundation raises enough money to keep JROTC.

News: School Levy - Yes or No

I'm sitting down about two weeks before election day for the school levy and thought I would write out the reasons I see for and against the levy.

At first glance it would seem that there couldn't be anyone more likely to vote for the levy than me.  I have four kids in Huber Heights City schools and another about to enter.  I have the resources to send them to private school but I keep…

News: Huber Heights fully committed to Music Center

Council voted to authorize the $12 million contract for the Music Center Building Package on Monday.  To date there has been no public discussion that shows council members have seen or understand the financial impact to the city.  The Music Center Validation study available here at HuberResidents.org has not be published by the city and the content raises concerns about the operation and revenue expectation.

News: Reducing traffic congestion on Old Troy Pike

Some Ideas for imporving traffic flow you might suggest once your council decides it is important enough to start the planning:

How about connecting the access road that runs in front of Gander Mtn over to Bridgewater Rd.  This is only about 1/2 mile.  A half mile of road cost about $1.25 million dollars.  This would allow some Huber and Vandalia residents to access businesses in the North Heights Plaza while avioding the area around the interstate interchange.

It would not be impossible to improve Wildcat road to include a bridge over the interstate.  The bridge would be expensive but the I-70 TIF is a big fundraiser and with more development there is the possibility of more funds.

News: Inappropriate Executive session leads to more wasted money

I listened to the 4 August work session. At the end they went into executive session. with the stated reason of "considering options in purchasing property for public purposes". This of course is not listed as one of the Permissible Discussion Topics found in the Ohio Sunshine Laws, Open Government Resource Manual.

Turns out the discussion led to the hiring of a real-estate consultant at an outrageous…
