New School Board Member - With post campaign thoughts

News: New School Board Member - With post campaign thoughts

During this campaign we had three qualified professionals step up to be considered.  You can look at their introductions in the comments section below this post.  The opportunity to fill the open position is past.  The next opportunity will be to file next August to be on the ballot next November (2015).  I've kept the original post.  After that I added some fresh thoughts.  Don't forget to look and the Candidate intros and encourage them to pursue a seat through election. …

One Candidate - Megan Baumgartner

Megan Baumgartner has told us about herself in that Facebook thread -

I would be willing to run - I am a 30-something's mom with two kids in this school district. We were stationed here several years ago and chose to return here upon my husbands retirement 2 years ago. We have a vested interest in the community…I'm not related to anyone here so would have no partiality to the way things have always been done. If no one else steps up I'd be happy to try it, but id want to throw my name in the hat feeling like i had some support going into it.

Ok…I'm currently a federal employee. I hold a Master's degree in Management and a bachelor's in Human Resources. Our family belongs to First Christian Church (off of Fishburg) and we volunteer there extensively. My husband is very involved in the schools as he has implemented the Watchdog program at Rushmore. I have worked extensively with at-risk children as I ran an after school program when we were stationed near Alamogordo, NM. I saw school districts at their absolute worst there - with the economy, those who could afford to buy school supplies were asked to contribute toilet paper for the school year (no exaggeration). I don't want that to happen HERE. Have I done anything like this specifically before? No. But as a mom, taxpayer, property owner and someone who just wants the best for the city we CHOSE to live in long-term, I realize there has got to be a way to find some common ground and bridge the gap between what we have and what we need. It doesn't have to be me, but some new blood and a fresh perspective would make a big difference in what we are dealing with.

I know Megan from Church.  She is a high energy, well educated professional with a great sense of family.  Show you support her by liking her post.

Let us all know if you are interested and qualified or convince someone you know to put their name in the ring.

Another Candidate - Nick Beeching

Hello Huber Heights,
My name is Nick Beeching and I submitted my resume to the Superintendent and School Board members last night in hopes of being considered for the vacant opening.
My wife and I have been members of this community since the 1980’s and we both graduated from Wayne High School. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in economics from Wright State University and being Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force I chose to return to the city that I grew up in. I currently work as an IT Program Manager at Wright-Patterson AFB and I have no plans to leave this career field or the city of Huber Heights. My 5 year old son attends Wright Brothers Elementary and my 3 year old daughter will attend Huber Heights city schools as well. My family and I are fully invested in Huber Heights and I would like to continue that investment in a more formal and influential position on the School Board.
The bottom line is that I feel compelled to do more than just vote on school levies and issue. This town needs boots on the ground who will do more than just spout off on the internet and so I am asking for your support in my quest to serve my community in the capacity.

One I've been waiting to see - Brian Hunt

Sorry for the delay. I’m willing to run and support Huber as needed here, but, it sounds like the press release has already closed the door on this one (?) and if so, I hope the new board can push through the issues smartly while providing transparency to the public, wish them luck. I can support the board over the next year if asked in any capacity, and can make a run at the election next year. As well, there seems to be some high quality people stepping up as shown in the above posts, which is a win for the city. To provide some background on myself for future consideration(s): I’ve lived in Huber now for 5 years, separated from the Air Force as a Captain and work as a program manager for one of our defense contractors. I specialize in financial management and strategic planning for large programs and would transfer those skills to work for Huber. Educationally, I was a Distinguished Graduate (#1 in class) from the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering, an MBA in Finance from the WP Carey School of Business at ASU, and I’m a certified PMP. I have a wife and three young kids in the system, and really want to see the district improve as they move through the grades. I strongly believe that the schools are only a fraction of the solution to a better educational environment, and other avenues (re: parental involvement) need to be explored for better support. It has to be said, Scipio is not my real name (unfortunate I know), I operate under a nom de plume of Brian Hunt during the work hours. I look forward to the meeting tonight and the momentum of new ideas to make this city better.
