I received a call from the Board of Elections yesterday.  The correct date for filing petitions to run for Mayor or City Council is Feb 6, 2013.  I do not know why the date was moved 15 days earlier than the first date that was put out but I heard it may have been a calculation error by one of their employees (as opposed to the state moving the date).

Also in an earlier post I wrote that school board candidates need to file by Feb.  I heard this week that the filing date is actually in August.  This was my mistake.  Everyone that files for school board will appear on the November ballot so there is no need for them to submit their petitions in order to make the May primary.

If anyone is interested in becoming Mayor, a member of city council of Huber Heights, you must file your application prior to February 6, 2013 (updated filing date). There are 4 council positions avialable. The application process for Mayor and City Council requires you file a nominating petition with at least 50 signatures and addresses of Huber Heights registered voters. There are also a few other forms. The Montgomery County Board of Election has the entire application package for all the positions. Members are chosen via the election process. If more than 2 people apply for the same position they will appear on the ballot on May 7, 2013 and the two candidates with the highest vote count will appear again on November 5, 2013. Jobs start Jan 2014.  The four council positions avialable are:  Council at Large, Ward 3, Ward 4 and Ward 5.  These positions are currently held by Mr. Mark Campbell, Mr. Tyler Starline, Ms. Judy Blankenship and Ms. Tracy Dudley respectively.

There will be 3 Huber Heights City School Board members up for election in November.  In Bethel schools have 5 total members I do not know how many will be up for election.  The filing date for Huber Heights School board is in August.  Call the Miami County Board of Elections for information on Bethel School Board elections.

The city will benefit from the opportunity to choose from a variety of qualified candidates. Don't be discouraged if you see a multitude of people request applications. Less than half the people that request applications for these positions complete the package on time. This results in many positions being filled by the single applicant. If you are really interested in these positions I highly recommend you attend the City of Huber Heights Administration Committee meetings if you are interested in City Council or the School Board Meetings if you are interested in becoming a School Board Member.
