I was ruled out of order in last night's city council mtg! I asked whose campaign I needed to contribute to in order to get a study done for a traffic light at Charlesgate and Old Troy. With that said an older man can get up and say I hate all foreigners and he thinks they should all be thrown out of the US in last month's council meeting, yet THAT'S not out of order. Mayor said that we should just "overlook" his statements.

Traffic Study

I am happy that council approved a traffic study for Charlesgate and Old Troy.  I appreciate their willingness to approve such a study. :P

traffic lights

I have noticed a trend. The speed in which a yellow light stays on. Typically it is 3 seonds or less. This engineers a person close to the light to run it on a red.
At 35 miles per hour, It typically takes 3.5 car lengths to come to a stop. That is provided someone is not behind you! There is a real danger if someone with quick reaction time will attempt to stop with a tailgator right behind them.
If a light is under 4-5 seconds on the yellow, the light is designed to create traffic violations on a road speed of 35 mph.
I think the idea is to put up cameras to "catch" the violators. The contracts on these devises specifies 3.5 seconds on the yellow light. Seems a little suspicious to me that the camera company designates how fast the light changes.

Traffic Study

I got an email from the city's engineer (I will post the PDF file shortly) basically saying there isn't enough traffic flow to warrent a traffic light.  I don't understand how 1 man, who counted cars for maybe 12hours and only for 1 day, can get a complete count of cars.  Was the day he counted the busiest day of the week?  If I remember correctly it was a Wed.  How about weekends?  Seems a bit skewed to me.  How was he able to count the flow while speaking to the police?  Residents called HHPD to complain that a man was sitting in his car from early am "when she left for work" and "he was still there when she got home".  At least our residents are looking out for each other.
