Human Trafficking Growing At Alarming Rates!
In light of the recent events that have put Ohio in the national spotlight, I would like to take a moment and share with you information about Human Trafficking that I learned at an in-service just over a year ago from Dr. Anthony Talbott an Associate Professor, Department of Political Science at UD . Though, let me make very clear that I am in NO way involved with this case and I do NOT know any facts, other than what the main stream media is putting out there.

ACTION ALERT! - Music Center, Tues. May 7- Admin Committee
There will be an Administration Committee Tues, May 7, at 6:00 pm. On the agenda will be the upcoming Music Center. There is a concern that the process to find a contractor to build the music center may follow the same pattern of the Aquatic Center: Project Manager Tim Conaway would talk to two or so companies he thinks may do a good job and have them submit packages to him. He then evaluates them and recommends his pick to the council. Conaway's company apparently would get a percentage of the settled-on price…

Music Center Cost Analysis
The first analysis of the costs associated with the Music Center Management Agreement can be found in the issues section "The Heights and the Music Center". My initial calculations using the least costly way to manage the project would have saved the city more than $120,000 per year of the projected $315,000 per year management cost.
When council announced…

I figure out how to get member posts to show up without my intervention. If you create a profile you can post to a lot of different sections of the site without me having to approve comments. Obviously, the desire is productive comments that will lead to better government. Everyone can post comments as a guest but I have to look at those first.

Executive Session - School and City - When are they appropriate?
Saturday Feb 2, 2013 the school board will hold an executive session probably to discuss the upcoming negotiations with the teacher's union. Is this appropriate? Both the city and the school board always go into executive sessions for employment discussions. The school and the city are allowed to hold these discussions in executive sessions. Read ORC 121.22 you'll see they are not required…

Traffic Signal Study requested
I was ruled out of order in last night's city council mtg! I asked whose campaign I needed to contribute to in order to get a study done for a traffic light at Charlesgate and Old Troy. With that said an older man can get up and say I hate all foreigners and he thinks they should all be thrown out of the US in last month's council meeting, yet THAT'S not out of order. Mayor said that we should just "overlook" his statements.

Notes from Administration Committee Meeting 22 Jan 13
I realized the other day that there have been no committee discussions about possibly raising the income tax. The DDN tells us council was thinking about it. Council would have to vote at a council meeting to do this and it would have to be done prior to Feb 6th if they wanted it to appear on the May ballot. The only regularly scheduled council meeting before Feb 6th is on Jan 28th.
Administration…

Victoria's Italian Cuisine marches with JROTC
Update --- The Ch 7 story is scheduled to play at 11:00pm Tonight Sunday Jan 20th 2013
I just got a call from Mindy Proctor and she told me Victoria's Italian Cuisine has committed to donate 10% of their Sunday proceeds in order to make sure Wayne High School students have the opportunity to participate in JROTC. The restaurant plans to continue this program until the newly formed foundation raises enough money to keep JROTC.

Accounting changes from the 14 Jan 2013 council meeting
Update: The council meeting was not useful in understanding the $600,000 loan from the Fire Capital Fund to the Fire Operating Fund. It was also not useful in understanding the accounting change. However, I broke down and made personal inquiries. As always the city staff and the council members were helpful and the one on one information was informative. But what good is it if only one person outside council knows "the reason" while the rest of the community has to guess? |

Huber Height's Parenting Skills on Communication
I often wonder what's right and what's wrong, and if there really is a right and wrong. Then I go into politics, and it just confuses my twenty-one year old mind. With politics I feel that everyone seems to be competing for their own ideals and never for for the people's ideas or beliefs. Then there are those politicians who are neither; in fact those politician are "parents". These "parents" view…

Filing date for running for Council and Mayor is Feb 6, 2013
I received a call from the Board of Elections yesterday. The correct date for filing petitions to run for Mayor or City Council is Feb 6, 2013. I do not know why the date was moved 15 days earlier than the first date that was put out but I heard it may have been a calculation error by one of their employees (as opposed to the state moving the date).
Also in an earlier post I wrote that…
